Microsoft Intune Migration

The Division of Student Life and Enrollment is preparing to decommission the Student Affairs (SA) Domain (sa.uconn.edu) and migrate workstations to the UConn Domain (uconn.edu).

Migrating workstations to the UConn Domain will progress desktop management services toward a more unified computing environment and provide security enhancements that are in alignment with University policies.

In preparation for this transition, IT-SLE facilitated the upgrade of all Division workstations to Windows 11 during October of 2024.

Starting in November 2024, IT-SLE will begin scheduling departments for their migrations to the Microsoft Intune platform. With this next project phase, workstations will no longer be joined to the old “Student Affairs” Domain (sa.uconn.edu) and will be transitioned to the UConn Domain (uconn.edu).

What is Microsoft Intune?

Microsoft Intune is a cloud-based service that focuses on mobile device management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM). It helps us manage the devices and applications used by our organization, ensuring that our data remains secure.

Why are we migrating?

  • Automated management of student & staff accounts
  • Enhanced security features and data protection
  • Improved management of devices and applications
  • Seamless integration with other Microsoft services

What do you need to do?

The IT team will handle most of the migration process. However, you will need to be:

  • Available during your departments migration and auto enrollment date
  • Follow specific instructions to enroll your devices in Intune
  • Review overall Student Life and Enrollment changes related to users and computers

We will provide detailed instructions in the coming months about the migration process. Each department will be scheduled for an auto-enrollment date and IT-SLE will be on-site or have in-office hours to assist in enrollment steps.
