Get Access & Accounts
All SLE employees use a UConn NetID to access email, computers, and university systems. This section explains how accounts work at UConn and how to request access for student workers and other affiliates.
UConn NetID
At UConn, faculty, staff, students, and affiliates receive a unique network identifier (NetID) that is comprised of 3 lower-case letters and 5 numbers. Your NetID remains the same throughout your career at UConn. NetID credentials allow you to log in to a wide variety of computing services at the University of Connecticut, including your UConn email account, university-issued computing devices, HuskyCT, PeopleSoft, etc.
NetID accounts are managed centrally by the University, with IT‑SLE assisting as needed for SLE access requirements.
- Manage your NetID and NetID password at netid.uconn.edu.
Account Sponsorship (Student Worker Email Accounts)
This service allows University employees to create accounts for affiliates, student employees, and privileged access. The Account Sponsorship Application allows permanent employees to sponsor up to 10 affiliate, 10 student employee (NetIDWork), and 10 privileged access (NetIDAdmin) accounts at any given time. The Account Sponsorship Application does not include management of computer access – only email resources.
Store and Share Files
UConn provides approved cloud storage services for university work files. SLE employees should use Microsoft OneDrive for individual files and Microsoft SharePoint for shared or departmental documents to meet university data standards.
Personal Storage – Microsoft OneDrive
Microsoft OneDrive is the approved storage location for individual work files. Faculty, staff, and students can use OneDrive to store personal documents, spreadsheets, drafts, and other day‑to‑day work files that do not need to be shared with a department or group.
Departmental Storage – Microsoft SharePoint
Microsoft SharePoint is the approved storage location for shared files and departmental documents. Departments and teams should use SharePoint to store files that need to be accessed, managed, or maintained collaboratively.
University data must be stored in approved locations to comply with UConn data standards.
Request Software, Hardware, or Technology
All technology purchases for departments in the Division of Student Life & Enrollment must be reviewed and coordinated through IT‑SLE. This includes hardware, software, accessories, and contracts for third‑party IT services.
What Requires IT‑SLE Review
Departments must work with IT‑SLE before purchasing or renewing technology to ensure the product can be supported, secured, and budgeted appropriately.
- Computers, monitors, printers, and accessories
- Software, software licenses and renewals
- IT service contracts and third‑party applications
- Hardware or devices that connect to the university network or store data
Why IT‑SLE Is Involved
Involving IT‑SLE early helps ensure technology purchases are supported, meet university requirements, and align with division‑wide standards.
- Enables reliable and consistent support
- Helps track trends for budgeting and planning
- Reduces security and compliance risks
💡Tip: Contact IT‑SLE before exploring or demoing new hardware or software. We can help identify supported solutions and avoid delays later.
Department Authorizers
Each SLE department has a designated authorizer who serves as the primary point of contact for certain IT requests. Your department authorizer works with IT‑SLE to review and approve requests that require permission.
Department authorizers act as liaisons between their department and IT‑SLE for requests that require approval or coordination.
Authorizers commonly assist with:
- Requests for access to systems, folders, or applications
- Software installations or license requests
- Technology purchases or renewals
If you are unsure who your department authorizer is or how to proceed, contact IT‑SLE and we can help route your request.
Computers and Equipment
IT‑SLE inventories and tracks most computers and technology equipment used by SLE departments. Contact IT‑SLE if equipment needs to be moved, reassigned, or if you need help identifying a device.
Most SLE computers and equipment include an inventory sticker with a barcode or asset number. IT‑SLE may ask for this information when you contact the Help Desk.
Contact IT‑SLE if you need to:
- Move or relocate computers or equipment
- Transfer equipment to another user or location
- Get help identifying a device used by your department
Printing
Printers are automatically configured on SLE computers based on your location. When you sign in, available printers should already be set up for you.
If you are unable to print or do not see the expected printer, contact the IT‑SLE Help Desk for assistance.

Email, eFaxing, and Remote Applications
UConn provides email, faxing, and remote application services for SLE employees. Use the links below to access these tools and learn how they are commonly used.

Outgoing faxes are sent to the eGoldFax cloud-based fax service which uses advanced encryption and security protocols to ensure that data remains confidential during transmission. Contact IT-SLE to have this service set up for your department.
Remote Applications
Some university applications can be accessed remotely without connecting directly to your work computer.
